Lisa Thatcher – Counseling for grades 6-8– 884-9145
Elizabeth Rous – Counseling for grades 9-12 – 884-9387

Counseling is offered to students through self-referral, teacher-referral, or parent-referral. Students may utilize this service to obtain support around a number of personal issues, such as academic stress, social issues, adjustment issues, & bereavement, and a solution-focused approach is utilized. Community resources are also provided for those students who require more comprehensive interventions. Collaboration with teachers, doctors, and/or learning specialists also occurs when necessary to ensure continuity of support within the academic environment.

In an effort to develop deeper relationships with the HRA parents, Lisa Thatcher offers several Parent Coffees throughout the school year. Discussions are based on current literature addressing the developmental lives of teens and pre-teens. The “coffees” are a wonderful way for parents to meet one another and to share insights into the changing lives of their children.
Many resources for parents are available for checkout in the Ferguson Media Center.

The Guidance Office also sponsors the Parent-to-Parent program and the Parents Association is purchasing the updated version. The program is video-based and strives to create confident parents who can guide their children around the influences they face today. The most important outcome of the program is a renewed partnership between parents and the school. To learn more, see www.thepassagegroup.com.
