Students entering the eighth grade are required to read three books.  All students must read Our Town and two other titles from the list below.  Check off the books you are ordering.  Please bring your required book to class on the first day of school.

This Pulitzer Prize Winning American play set in Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire presents the drama of life in a small New England village.  In this classic play, the main characters, Emily and George, learn to face the joys and heartaches of life as they mature raising the question do the living appreciate life on earth.

This mystery is set on an island off the English coast.  A curious assortment of weekend guests visiting an eccentric millionaire host fall prey one by one to murder.  Who is responsible?          

 

_____      Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave

This autobiography is a gripping account of Douglass’s life as a slave and his harrowing escape to freedom.  A skilled writer, Douglass is an eloquent spokesperson for civil rights of African-Americans.

This novel is the classic tale of the young orphan boy, Oliver, who escapes from a workhouse and finds himself among a gang of street urchins trying to survive.
