MS March ‘Mester

The excitement of exploration filled Hampton Roads Academy’s Middle School hallways during the inaugural March ‘Mester.
Last week, HRA’s Middle School students, grades 5 – 8, participated in a variety of academic and educational activities designed to promote creative and purposeful immersion and reflection.

Fifth and sixth grade students and teachers worked together on activities and lessons based around the theme of “Trail Blazers.” The program explored the multiple ecosystems that exist on the Hampton Roads Academy campus, along with investigating ways to preserve and promote their growth and development.

Seventh and eighth grade students and teachers explored the theme of "Pushing Boundaries.” The program helped students identify various boundaries that exist in our social and physical lives, discovered ways and means to work through and past those constraints and to recognize the results.

“The March ‘Mester provided opportunities across all disciplines for exploration, discovery and creativity,” said Head of Middle School, Rhonda DeChirico. “Some topics explored related directly to subject content, but were designed to broaden students’ understanding of themselves as individuals and as responsible citizens.”
