Lower School students celebrate Earth Day

HRA’s Lower School students participated in a month long focus on conservation and the environment.
This focus was kicked-off at the March leadership assembly where guest speaker, Sarah Crawford, an Education Director at HRSD, spoke about the importance of clean waste water and the impact of polluted waste water on our local tributaries. Ms. Crawford's speech was titled, "Waste Water: What Happens After You Flush."

“At HRA, we understand the importance of being good citizens. The school's core values emphasize responsibility,” said Head of Lower School, Mrs. Swain. “Part of being a responsible citizen involves taking care of our environment and protecting it from harm."

Following the assembly, students began collecting plastic water bottles for recycling. Students also collected used Crayola markers to be sent to a recycling company where they will be converted into a reusable fuel. SCA members made signs which were posted around the school building encouraging conservation of water in our school bathrooms. Culminating the month long conservation and environment studies, students planted an apple tree on the Lower school playground on Earth Day.
