HRA Graduates 67 in the Class of 2015

Hampton Roads Academy celebrated the accomplishments of 67 students during the 2015 Commencement Ceremony today in the school’s Svein J. Lassen Auditorium.
The graduating students continue the tradition of 100 percent college acceptance and earned nearly $4 million in merit scholarships and awards.

The morning ceremony included commencement addresses from Upper School Math Teacher John Hilburger, selected by the senior class to give the Salutation, and senior Jeffrey Stout, selected by his classmates to give the Student Commencement Speech. The Commencement Address was given by David Halliday from the HRA Class of 1998. Holliday holds an undergrad degree from Stanford University, a graduate degree from Yale University and will receive his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School next year. He recounted his great memories of Hampton Roads Academy and encouraged the students to seek to build themselves and to create their individual futures. After the Conferring of Diplomas, Headmaster Peter W. Mertz gave closing remarks.

“The Class of 2015 represents a variety of talents, their drive for success has produced a fine group of young adults who are truly ready for college and beyond.” said Peter W. Mertz, Headmaster. “We look forward to their many accomplishments as they lead and serve our communities.”

The 67 members of the Class of 2015 leave a legacy of great success at Hampton Roads Academy in the classroom: three seniors were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for their high academic achievement; on the stage: the seniors led this year’s play productions and concerts; and on the athletic fields: 11 graduates will play collegiate athletics on an NCAA team. Graduates plan to attend 37 different colleges or universities.
