Yearbook Dedication Ceremony
5/17/2013
HRA traditional yearbook dedication ceremony assembly took place on Monday, May 13 as the 2012-2013 Hampton Roads Academy yearbook, The Log, was unveiled and presented to students and faculty. This year's theme was "In & Out," which represents how HRA is the total package, both inside and outside the classroom. Inside the school, students benefit from top notch academics, form strong bonds with peers and faculty and develop talents through the performing and visual arts. Outside the classroom, students grow on the athletic fields and learn teamwork and sportsmanship, as well as participate in clubs and organizations that give back to the community at large. The 2012-2013 Log is dedicated to Lt. Colonel Ken Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins worked at HRA for 27 years as a science and American history teacher and was heavily involved in athletics and other school activities. After Mr. Jenkins received his copy, each senior was called individually to receive his or her own book and a gift from the Lower School, presented by Pre-K, Kindergarten and First grade students who marched on stage individually as well.

HRA students travel to Oregon Inlet for science lesson
5/16/2013
HRA’s sixth grade students participated in a science field trip to NC’s Oregon Inlet. The trip was designed to provide hands-on activities that supported lessons they learned throughout the year. There were five stations designed to study water quality, fishing, species identification, grasslands, marshes and seining.  Students rotated in groups of 11 to each station, applying what they have learned to complete each station. They were given a curriculum packet consisting of questions pertaining to what they observed in each station.  In the end, they had to decide whether the Inlet was in a poor or healthy ecological state.
