A Tradition of Success

Hampton Roads Academy has a long-standing tradition of 100 percent college acceptance for graduating seniors. HRA’s Class of 2019 continued the tradition and the 74 students earned more than $6 million in merit-based scholarships and awards. A Hampton Roads Academy education is an investment in your child's future.

Individual Attention

Small classes are a Hampton Roads Academy trademark, ensuring individual attention and personalized instruction. The student/teacher ratio is 9-to-1, and the average class size is 16. We provide a superior academic program, personal attention to each student and a community environment that enhances physical and emotional security.

Early Childhood Learning Wing

Hampton Roads Academy’s Early Childhood Learning Wing is a dedicated area for the school’s youngest students. Large rooms allow for various, developmentally appropriate learning stations throughout and large floor space for play and class projects while a secure, safe location in a designated wing is conducive to teacher collaboration and quiet nap. This environment provides the perfect start to your child’s education.

Recently expanded Lower School and Dining Hall Addition

Hampton Roads Academy’s new Lower School wing features 12 large, bright classrooms with enhanced 21st-century learning opportunities. Not only were these new classrooms built for learning and innovation but they also open new spots in HRA’s Lower School and eliminate the need for wait pools in many Lower School grades.  HRA also opened a new state-of-the-art, 400-seat dining hall with a full-service professional kitchen that provides every student with a daily selection of healthy meals in a space where all Navigators can come together daily as a community. A unique feature that connects the dining hall and Lower School wing is a 1,000-square-foot hydroponics laboratory. The laboratory will include vertical growing towers of leafy salad vegetables for HRA’s dining hall with the potential to grow other fruits and vegetables.

Innovation and Technology

With a commitment to innovation in the classroom, Hampton Roads Academy offers advanced learning tools throughout all divisions with six technology labs. A wireless campus, HRA features integrated iPad programs and interactive-board technology throughout.

Character in Motion

Athletic competition is a time-honored cornerstone of the Hampton Roads Academy experience. With at least 44 Teams, 64 Conference Championships and 33 State Championship Teams HRA student-athletes commit to excellence on the field.

Creation at HRA

Hampton Roads Academy’s Visual and Performing Arts studies enrich the lives of students by promoting discipline and critical thinking. Students who participate in the arts programs not only gain valuable insight into themselves, but they learn to see and make connections with their surroundings in new ways. HRA presents three major theatrical productions, a One-Act Festival and 18 visual arts progressions.
