May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Elizabeth Rous
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we feel that education about mental health fits HRA’s core values of honesty, respect, and responsibility.
This year’s Mental Health Awareness Month theme is “Together for Mental Health”, which emphasizes how important mental health is to our overall health and that together, we can eradicate the stigma often associated with mental illness.

Planned for this month in Upper School Homeroom are informative videos, activities, and mindful meditation.  Informational handouts and brochures are also available outside of my office and on the "HRA Cares About Mental Health" bulletin board in the Upper School. Additionally, our favorite therapy dogs will be present each morning before final exams.

It is important that our students know that there are many resources available to them at school, however, these conversations begin at home.  Please talk to your child about mental health, stress management, good sleep habits, and the importance of self-care.  If you have concerns about your child, please contact me at 884-9387 or erous@hra.org.
