HRA swim team wins the VISAA Division II Swim Invitational

Hampton Roads Academy boys and girls swim team won the VISAA Division II Swim Invitational held at George Mason University. This is the fourth consecutive year that the boys and girls swim team have competed at the invitational and have taken home both trophies.
Nicholas Shoenig was named Swimmer of the Meet. He won four gold medals and broke three meet records including 200 Free, 100 Back and as part of 400 Free Relay. He was also named Swimmer of the Meet in 2017. Other contributors to the team's success were Cooper Muench winning the 100 Butterfly. Muench along with Nicholas Shoenig, Brandon Kim, and Adam Hager won the 200 Medley Relay. Kim, Muench, and Shoenig were joined by Blake Rouzie for the 400 Free Relay where they set a meet record.

The girls team had a number of first place finishes. Christy Slate, Bronwyn Keating, Emily Payne, Molly Rouzie won the 400 Free Relay and broke the meet record. Emily Payne recorded two more first-place finishes in the 100 Back and 200 Medley along with her teammates Sophie Snyder, Molly Rouzie, Bronwyn Keating. Keating also won the 200 Free.

Head coach Jeff Scott said, “We were really pleased with how the swimmers performed individually and in relays making this win on both sides a team effort. We were happy with the outcome of the meet, and it was a great start to our championship season as we move forward into the TCIS and state meets.”

The team will compete in the TCIS Meet this Saturday, February 10 at the Midtown Aquatic Center, and will look to capture its seventh consecutive state championship starting Thursday, February 15 at the Stafford Aquatic Center.
