Challenge Course and Environmental Classroom

Through the generous support of the Parents’ Association, Hampton Roads Academy is proud to present the new Challenge Course and Environmental Classroom. Easily spotted from anywhere on HRA’s campus, the Challenge Course and Environmental Classroom is a series of adventure activities designed for group participation; encouraging teamwork, trust, creative problem solving and self-confidence, all from 30 feet in the air.

Situated behind Hampton Roads Academy’s athletic fields, the Challenge Course features a covered 16’X16’ deck 30 feet above the ground with secured guard rails on all four sides. A cargo net runs from the ground to the deck for easy access. The Challenge Course also features five high elements: Swinging Logs, Multivine, Pirates Crossing, Swiss Cheese Wall and Buoy Crossing. An exciting 250 foot zip line awaits participants at the end of their adventure.

The Challenge Course is staffed by several faculty members who are ACCT (Association of Challenge Course Technology) certified. Annually, Hampton Roads Academy classes spend one day on the Challenge Course. The 6th graders enjoy the Jamboree, Freshmen cavort at the Ropes and Rally, 10th, 11th and 12th graders are challenged in the fall, while 7th and 8th graders participate in the springtime.
When school is not in session and on weekends, the course is available to off-campus groups. Corporations, civic groups, athletic teams, youth groups, faith based-groups, scout troops, etc. may reserve a day on the course.
Groups may participate in three or six hour programs. Fees are available upon request.
