Bronwyn Keating signs letter of intent to JMU Swimming Program

Hampton Roads Academy senior Bronwyn Keating signed her letter of intent to swim for the James Madison University Swimming and Diving Program.

A valuable contributor to the Hampton Roads Academy swim team, Keating helped the Navigators win four consecutive Division II Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. She was the 2015 Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association State Champion in the 50 Freestyle and as member of the 400 Freestyle Relay Team. She also attained All-Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools recognition in each of the past four seasons with HRA. Through her excellence in the pool, Keating has set team records in the 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke and as a member of both the 200 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle Relays.

“Bronwyn has been a versatile swimmer for the HRA swim team for the past four years,” said HRA Swim Team Head Coach Jeff Scott. “She has played a pivotal role in our State Championship teams and swam every event throughout her high school career for the Navigators. As a captain this past year, she was a great leader for the team both in and out of the pool.”

Mauri Ware signs with Lehigh University field hockey program

Hampton Roads Academy senior Mauri Ware recently signed her letter of intent to play field hockey at Division I, Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA.

Ware has been a driving force in the Hampton Roads Academy Field Hockey Program. She is an explosive player, playing attacking mid and is the key to HRA’s offensive movement. Over her career at HRA, she tallied 28 goals along with 12 assists. Her junior season she compiled a total of 10 goals and 7 assists. That same year she was selected as team MVP, TCIS 2nd Team All-Conference, and VISAA 2nd Team All-State. Ware started in all 15 games of her senior season where her exceptional stick skills and speed helped the team find the back of the cage. In her senior campaign, as a captain, she boasted a season high of 18 goals, 5 assists and was named to the TCIS 1st Team All-Conference and VISAA 1st Team All-State Team.

Hampton Roads Academy’s Varsity Field Hockey Coach Lauren Scott has had the pleasure of watching Ware demonstrate strong leadership, and illuminate her love of the game to her teammates. “One of her greatest strengths is her work ethic and her genuine love of the game. While she is our team captain and top player, she is also patient with our new players and leads by example. Mauri has served not only to elevate our game but also to motivate her teammates.”

The community of Hampton Roads Academy is proud to call Mauri a Navigator and congratulates her on this accomplishment. We wish her the best of luck in the 2018 season.
