The Athletic Department at Hampton Roads Academy holds firm to a set of objectives and expectations regarding the individual conduct of student athletes. These expectations stem from the belief that any Hampton Roads Academy team should be guided by a commitment to perform to the best of its ability. This commitment involves sacrifices to be made by the coaches, the parents, and the student/athletes.
In order to provide a broad and varied program so that each student/athlete may have maximum opportunities for personal success and may regard failures as an opportunity to grow, the Athletic Department at Hampton Roads Academy strives to:
... Help student/athletes to identify the best in themselves and to assist in building upon that foundation a sense of self-esteem, self-reliance, and compassion for others.
... Promote the growth of a sense of responsibility by holding student/athletes accountable for their own actions, and insisting that they meet their obligation to others.
... Develop leadership capabilities, so that those talents will be of service to others.
... Develop in our student/athletes a desire to excel in our very competitive society. We feel success is not measured by wins, but rather by continually striving to do so. One learns to accept defeat
only by striving to win with earnest dedication.
... Develop the ability to react to any situation like a true sportsman and to develop desirable social traits, including emotional control, honesty, cooperation and dependability.

Consistent with the above objectives, the Athletic Department has developed a set of expectations which should help guide each student/athlete, and therefore enable the team to have a successful and valuable experience. Student/athletes are expected to:
1. Maintain a high priority on academic achievement.
2. Exhibit the highest standards of good sportsmanship.
3. Abstain from the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
4. Refrain from the use of profanity.
5. Maintain a balanced nutritional diet.
6. Maintain regular sleep patterns.
