At HRA, we constantly review, improve, and innovate so we can offer an even stronger, more effective experience to our students every year.
OUR NEED
The ancient navigators used stars. For generations, road maps guided the way. Today, we navigate the course of our journeys with GPS – the Global Positioning System – a network of satellites orbiting the Earth.
 
With a voice we trust leading us to our respective destinations and with a constant awareness of our surroundings, we are able to strategically determine our best routes and alter them confidently in response to change. This is the same approach we use when navigating the course for Hampton Roads Academy.
 
Peninsula families have witnessed multiple generations grow up attending Hampton Roads Academy, with some of our earliest graduating classes now ready to send their grandchildren. We know, however, that we cannot send tomorrow’s children to yesterday’s Hampton Roads Academy. To maintain our reputation as the area’s highest quality school, we must keep aiming higher. Our future leaders deserve the best legacy we can give them.
OUR PROJECT

  • Dining Hall

    - Full-service professional kitchen and seating for 400

    - Enhanced accessibility to food and restrooms during outdoor activities and athletic events

    - Fresh, healthy food meets the nutritional needs of our student body

    - Provides the ability to respond to food allergies or special dietary restrictions

  • Lower School

    - Twelve bright, spacious new classrooms with modern layouts

    - Enhanced 21st-century learning opportunities

    - Large, flexible Innovation Lab/Makerspace for students to build, create and innovate

    - Allows for expanded enrollment, ensuring sustainability

  • Hydroponics Lab

    - 1,000-square-foot space with hydroponic garden structures, plants and seeds

    - Unique to our region

    - Hydroponically student-grown produce to be used in the new dining hall

    -Excess produce to be donated to local food pantries

  • Tennis Courts

    - Six championship courts meeting USTA specifications

    - Replaces traditional porous macadam courts built in the 1970’s

    - Painted asphalt surface comparable to collegiate courts

    - Movable windscreens of varying sizes allow for appropriate air flow

    - Opened fall 2017

Today marked the start of the largest expansion project in HRA’s history.
