Eighth Grader, Parker Muench, won the Virginia Media/WHRO Spelling Bee

HRA eighth grader, Parker Muench, was awarded the Virginia Media/WHRO Spelling Bee First Place trophy by Bert Schmidt, President and CEO of WHRO Public Media, on HRA’s campus on February 19th.
Parker prevailed in a field of 25 competitors in The Virginia Media/WHRO Spelling Bee, which took place virtually on Saturday, February 13th. Parker had previously become the Hampton Roads Academy representative upon winning the HRA Spelling Bee in January.

The Spelling Bee helps students improve their spelling, increase their vocabulary, learn concepts and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives. In addition to the academic benefits, students also develop important life skills – such as goal setting, time management and public speaking – that will help them as they advance in school and eventually to successful careers.

Parker moves on to represent our region in the 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Baltimore, Maryland, June 1-3, 2021.
