A number of HRA students have been accepted to the Summer Residential Governor's School, a state-level award for an advanced program of study. These HRA students competed with public and private school students from across the state of Virginia. They each had to complete an extensive application, garner two teacher recommendations and many had to write a thought-provoking essay. For the French, Latin and Spanish foreign language academies, students had to undergo rigorous language testing. Performing Arts students endured an in person adjudication in Norfolk, for which they were judged and ranked.
The Virginia Department of Education recently released the notifications that the following students were accepted:
Engineering/ JLAB - Jay Barreto
VIMS - Erin Ferrare
Visual and Performing Arts (Clarinet) - Michael Kokolis (Michael was accepted as a Sophomore - an incredible honor - but the program was cancelled due to COVID and he was granted automatic entry for this summer)
Visual and Performing Arts (Theater) - Gwyneth Strange
French - Blaine Hutchens
Latin - Claire Kutner
Japanese - Ainsley Johnston
We are very proud of them all! Some of the programs will meet in person and others will be virtual.
