HRA Chess Finished Fourth in Team Standings for 2020-21

HRA's Chess Team represented our school in a total of three online tournaments over the course of this semester. Each tournament had 50 players total from various high schools and colleges throughout the state, and the field included the strongest juniors Virginia has to offer.  According to the Virginia Chess Federation, Hampton Roads Academy finished fourth in the Final Team Standings for 2020-21 Virginia Scholastic Chess.
The individual results are:
Will Wilson: 0 wins, 0 draws, over one tournament,
Carter Patten: 2 wins and 2 draws, over two tournaments,
Cole Frankenhoff : 9 wins, 0 draws,
Ryan McCauley: 7 wins, 2 draws, and the award for top unrated in the first tournament he played in.

As a result of Frankenhoff's and McCauley's performances, they were both invited to represent HRA at the Virginia State Scholastic Invitational, an in-person tournament taking place in late May. Every year, the invitational is one of the strongest junior tournaments in Virginia, second only to the junior state championship. Qualifying for this Invitational is a tremendous achievement.

Cole expressed, "I couldn’t be more proud of the work everyone’s put in, and I think HRA chess has a bright future."
