HRA alumnae named to the ITA All-American team

Two Hampton Roads Academy tennis standouts find success at the collegiate level. Maureen Slattery ‘13 and Wiktoria Plawska ‘14 were named All-American after their performances in the 2016-2017 season.
Slattery started all four years at the Division I, University of Denver in singles and doubles. Her freshman year she was the Mountain Region Rookie of the Year. Slattery’s senior year she became the program’s first All-American along with her doubles partner. Slattery came to Hampton Roads Academy as a sophomore and played all three years. During her time at HRA the girls tennis team won the TCIS Championship in 2011, VISAA Division II State Championship in 2012, and she went undefeated in singles all three years of play. Slattery was selected as a member of the VISAA 1st Team All State Team in 2011 and 2012 and she also won Daily Press Girls Tennis Player of the Year in 2012. In 2013, she was named the VISAA State Player of the Year.

Plawska received the honor for her singles performance for Division III, Lewis and Clark College. During her four years, she competed at a high level for both singles and doubles play. Her biggest feat was during her senior year when she beat the No. 1 seed at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships where she was named the singles champion. She then qualified for the ITA Oracle Cup National Tournament and was later named All-American. At Hampton Roads Academy, Plawska received many awards and led the girls tennis team to a VISAA Division II State Championship in 2012 and 2013. She was selected as a member of the VISAA 1st Team All State Team in 2013 and 2014 and named the VISAA State Player of the Year for 2014. She also won Daily Press Girls Tennis Player of the Year in 2014.
