HRA Opens New PreKindergarten Program

Due to overwhelming request Hampton Roads Academy will open a new PreKindergarten program for three-year-olds. This perfect addition to the thriving Early Childhood program in HRA’s Lower School will include a single PreKindergarten classroom of 10-12 three-year-old students for the 2018 – 2019 academic year.
Similar to HRA’s current Junior Kindergarten, the new full-day PreKindergarten program will include daily recess along with Music, Art, Science Lab, Computer and P.E. resource classes offering HRA’s youngest students an enriching school experience. The classroom focus will be on cognitive, emotional and social development and the pre-academic skills necessary for entry into the HRA Junior Kindergarten.

"We look forward to welcoming these young learners to our campus,” said HRA Head of Lower School Susanne Swain. “HRA provides a solid foundation for its youngest students balancing creative play with important, academic building blocks."
The parameters for entry to Hampton Roads Academy’s new PreKindergarten classroom include children who turn three by August 20 (before the first day of school) and are able to take care of their own bathroom needs with minimal assistance (fully day-time potty trained, including nap time). They must also be ready for a classroom setting: able to cooperate and follow instructions, transition from one activity to another without fuss, and be happily engaged with only a single naptime in early afternoon.
