HRA honors 28 faculty and staff members during Founders’ Day

Twenty-eight faculty and staff members were recognized for their years of service; eight for five years of service, 12 for 10 years of service, four for 15 years of service, two for 20 years of service, Upper and Middle School Chorus teacher Robin Steinberger for 25 years of service and Upper School History teacher and Soccer coach Kelly Alford for 30 years of service.

“The longevity of our faculty really speaks to the health of our school community,” said HRA Headmaster Peter W. Mertz. “We value the positive student-teacher relationship that is unique to HRA and these faculty members have made an impact on hundreds of students.”

William H."Trip" Ferguson, III `67, an alumnus who has been a loyal volunteer and a passionate advocate for Hampton Roads Academy for decades, was added to HRA’s Wall of Honor, joining 23 other dedicated members of HRA’s community, including his late father. HRA’s Wall of Honor was created to honor individuals who have influenced in a lasting way the direction and quality of HRA.

“HRA is family and it always has been family. My Dad was one of the many founders of the school, he served and I serve and I hope my family behind me will serve,” said Trip Ferguson ‘67. “I have found that one of the secrets to success is not what you acquire for yourself but what you acquire for all of those around you.”
