Digital Learning

Program Overview

Hampton Roads Academy students and faculty are excited about taking another step forward in our journey of 21st century learning. We feel fortunate to have this opportunity to explore new technology and create engaging ways to acquire knowledge. iPads are now 1:1 in all classrooms, PK-12 grade.  As all of our students are using mobile devices, we want you to be aware of our goals. In addition, as partners in this endeavor, we want to share our expectations and ask for your support.

Our goals are for students to use the iPad for the following items:
  • Organizational Tasks
  • Note-taking and Writing
  • Interactive Reading
  • Study Skills and Reference
  • Projects and Presentations
As publishers transition to digital platforms, we will use a combination of print, ebook and iBook formats. Each student’s course schedule will determine which type of books students will need to purchase. In addition, students are expected to have a set of core apps. Teachers may request additional, inexpensive or free apps during the year.

By allowing our students to carry mobile wireless devices, we are conveying a message of trust and expecting that our students will be respectful and responsible digital citizens. Please note that HRA filters content when students are signed on to the school's network. Devices do not have built in filters so parents should check with their Internet provider to learn what is available for individual homes.
