    Welcome to an ongoing conversation about college admissions.  I will be regularly posting thoughts on the subject, and in keeping with the nautical theme of our school, I’m calling it The Sextant (though I could be convinced to change it if I hear a better suggestion!); I figured that, as a sextant is a tool used to navigate, so too might this blog be a useful tool for students and parents to navigate the college admission landscape.

    Memory Portraits 2018 - Mexico

    Seven National Art Honor Society members illustrated meaningful portraits of children from orphanages in Mexico last spring.  Members Hana Mohsin, Ally Motter’18, Kaila Morris’18, Vicky Ye’18, Dani He’18 and Laura Jean Logue created their second consecutive portraits for this project.  Artist Almony Ge shared her talent, as she created her first Memory Portrait, as well. Colored pencil was used to develop the features in the face of each child.  Each artist added personal touches in style and background details.

    HRA senior Salonee Ferrao has an impressive resume of talents and accomplishments for someone her age.  She has played at Carnegie Hall, owns her own business and, earlier this year, received the prestigious Harry. F. Byrd Award.

    HRA recently offered Annapolis Defense and Security's "Fight Like a Girl" College Prep Self Defense Program for girls in the Class of 2018.  The course focused on safety awareness, safety strategies, and defense techniques.

    Juniors Peter Galantich and Olivia Basco are 2 of 45 high school students selected to participate on an Operation Smile mission this year. Peter will be going to Santa Cruz, Bolivia and Olivia will be going to Agadir, Morocco.
